Artist Bios

Los Angeles native ROBERT L. SHERMAN is a long-time local businessman and photographer. In the last several years he has traveled extensively to the cities of the U.S., Latin America, Europe, and Asia in the practice of his favorite photographic interest, urban landscapes. His work has been exhibited locally at venues such as The Blue 7 Gallery in Santa Monica, The Julia Dean Photo Workshops in Venice, and the Bel-Air Camera Gallery in W.L.A. He has published four photography books: "The Automobile: Icon and Art", "At the Pier", "A World View", and "Latin America Guide". Currently, Bob is concentrating on images of The L.A. urban landscape which highlight the changes taking place and the resulting art-forms.

BILL JOHNSON makes images for people who enjoy dramatic moments in nature. He is a fine art landscape photographer operating out of a studio in Silverlake. He travels around the Southwest and Hawaii with a large format camera seeking locations and lighting that move him. He uses the computer to produce high-resolution images and archival prints. While working in urban planning in Los Angeles, Bill concentrates on creating "Urban Fragments" – images that reflect the constant movement of daily life in crowds in popular places throughout the city.

LORNA HART is a native of Los Angeles, businesswoman and photographer. Both endeavors have taken her on travels across the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Hungary, Spain, China, and Africa. Her photographic style is to share the world's wonders in "real life" images of landscapes, architecture, wildlife and portraiture. Ms. Hart's work has been exhibited at Gallery KM, The Santa Monica Pier Exhibition, U.C.L.A. Hammer Museum (for the Art of the Brain charity event), L.A. Zoo Magazine and at LOOK3 "Festival of the Photograph" in 2008-2009. Lorna continues to expand her creative visions to include a more avante-garde point of view while photographing the realities and illusions of night-time Los Angeles. ZT Fang, MD, is a faculty anesthesiologist working at UCLA School of Medicine. He is also a passionate photographer. His main interest in photography is nature and landscape. His photographs have been published and shown in magazines and galleries, including UCLA BEAT for the past 5 years, Photographer's Forum, 2009, and the Bel Air Gallery in 2008. His work, "Stand", was selected as the finalist in Photographer's Forum Annual Photo Contest, 2009. After joining the LA Photo Project, ZT is working on seascape and landscape images to show the beautiful environment surrounding the great Los Angeles area.

Margaret K. Tsai grew up in Hong Kong and received her college education in the United States. Her professional life has been dedicated to health care as a Registered Dietitian in Food Service Administration. She took many photography classes at Santa Monica College at the time when photography just began to transition from film to digital.

She is a member of the Los Angeles Hong Kong Photo Club, as well as a founding member of the SGB 889, an association of photographers based in L.A. She also has been a guest speaker at the DSC Center photography meetings. Her work has been exhibited at the DSC Center in San Gabriel and at the Chinese Cultural Center in Rosemead.

Margaret enjoys creating extraordinary photo images out of ordinary subjects. She loves to produce images that make the viewer linger and wonder. She likes to share her view that a fraction of the whole is often more interesting than the whole.

DAVID WILLIAMS, a retired Los Angeles businessman, has for the past several years devoted much of his time to the art of photography. He enjoys being outdoors and has traveled throughout California and much of the U.S. capturing images of seascapes, landscapes, and city scenes. His work has been shown at the Los Angeles County Fair where he won an honorable mention in a juried show. He has also exhibited at The Blue 7 Gallery in Santa Monica and at The Bel-Air Camera Gallery in W.L.A.

RONALD S. LITVAK is a Los Angeles native whose passion for photography emanated out of his love for the outdoors. From the coast to the mountains to the deserts, Ron's enthusiasm for the environment is witnessed throughout his compositions. His body of work in photography has now been expanded to capture the diversity of the people of Los Angeles.

RITA HAMILTON was born in New York. She is an artist, photographer and teacher. Her photographic work concentrates on landscapes and people, as well as abstract design projects. Rita's photography has taken her to remote areas of the world where she has captured images of the raw beauty found in nature.

Rita is a member photographer for the Heart Gallery in Los Angeles and is a member of the Professional Photography Association and Women in Photography International. She also holds a Ph.D in Health and Human Services/Psychology and works in the greater Los Angeles Area. LEONARD F. WALTS has been a practicing anesthesiologist in Los Angeles for nearly 45 years. His interest in photography began in the late 1950's when he was an Air Force medical officer stationed in Japan. He purchased a Rolleiflex camera and, with the exotic scenery all around, soon immersed himself into the hobby of photography. Retirement has allowed Leonard to return to his passion for photography on a full-time basis. Over the past several years, he has studied all aspects of photography and expanded his skills. He won a first prize in the Los Angeles County Medical Association photo art show. He has exhibited his work many times in various gallery venues.

Many of Leonard's photos of L.A.'s murals and public art are composed of two or more images through the use of computer graphic techniques. In this, he has mastered the methods required to move photography into a new age of imagery.

Judy Raffel photographs a very eclectic range of subjects, recently specializing in environmental portraits and street photography...black and white random and candid shots of people in Los Angeles. She is deeply influenced by Cartier-Bresson who succeeded "to trap life as it is, where the smallest thing can be a great subject." Her exhibit "Urban Pulse" took her to many L.A. neighborhoods, capturing a true melting pot of people in the city. Judy has exhibited at Bel Air Camera, the Santa Monica Pier Carousel and K-M Gallery in Santa Monica. Her photos of the performers at Santa Monica's Broad Stage and Edye Second Space are on permanent display and she is currently photographing the theaters' educational and outreach programs at the Santa Monica College of Performing Arts."
